Belton International Day Two Round Up

Saturday 1st April 2017

It was a successful day for East Midlands riders at Belton International Horse Trials. Louth based rider Rosalind Canter took top honours in today’s first CIC2* International class, riding Michele Saul’s No Excuse.

Ros has a fabulous training facility on the family farm where she is a successful producer of young horses. With two Burghley completions under her belt she heads to Badminton at the beginning of May with her top ride, Allstar B. Second after the dressage, a smart double clear moved Ros and No Excuse above the first phase leaders Kitty King & Vendredi Biats who dropped a place to second.

The other CIC2* went to Sam Ecroyd and Arco BB.

There were two straight intermediate sections today, one of which was won by Stathern’s Emilie Chandler on Denver VI. Owned by the Copestake family, Emilie has the ride while regular jockey Constance is competing in France. “We finished second in an open novice at Lincoln last month but this was my first Intermediate on him. I’m thrilled to have won, partly because it was unexpected and also because Belton is one of my favourite events,” said Emilie, who has 11 horses in her yard to compete this season.

Today’s remaining winners were Fiona Breach on Kilcannon Harley Cruise in an intermediate and Paul Sims with Last Secret in the open intermediate.

Tomorrow’s action gets underway at 8am with showjumping and cross country, with the Lycetts Grantham Cup cross country scheduled for 11.45am. The unaffiliated Dressage Championships start at 9am.

Pony Club Games, H&M Dog Display, the Pakefield Ferrets, RoR quadrille and a dressage demo will all take place during the day – as will the hugely exciting and competitive ‘winner takes all’ Gate Jumping competition, booked to start at 2.15pm.
